He worked and studied with the National Centre for Software Technology (NCST) around the time that NCST stretched the Internet into India; was part of the core team of Business India Information Technology (BIIT) one of the first commercial email providers in the country; and after that, along with a partner setup QuantumLink Communications Pvt. Ltd. (QLC), one of India's first Internet Technology companies.
A string of pioneering activities followed and in 2004 NASSCOM honored QLC as a showcase company for IT Innovation in India. Around the same time, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) launched it's CISM certification and Sharad qualified under the "grandfathering scheme", which simply acknowledges the expertise, knowledge and work that the recipient has put in the security domain.
An oft-invited speaker, Sharad has spoken at various conferences and seminars all over India and also in the USA and Europe. His articles and quotes have been carried in various publications and he has been visiting faculty at technical and management institues.
Sharad's other interests include the martial arts and the great outdoors. He occasionally writes about technology and life on his weblog SharadWare.
